Microsoft's standard search crawler. Bing's index also feeds Microsoft Copilot and other AI experiences built on Bing.

What happens if you block it

Your site drops out of Bing search and the AI experiences that rely on Bing's index.

Our take

Keep it allowed. Bing's training opt-out today is the NOARCHIVE meta tag; Microsoft is building support for a robots.txt no-training preference, targeted for early 2027.

robots.txt

To block it:

User-agent: Bingbot
Disallow: /

To allow it explicitly (useful when a wider rule blocks other bots):

User-agent: Bingbot
Allow: /

The operator's own words

Bingbot is our standard crawler and handles most of our crawling needs each day.Microsoft documentation, checked 2026-10-31

robots.txt allows it, but is it really getting through?

A firewall or CDN rule can reject Bingbot even when robots.txt welcomes it, and nothing in your CMS shows it. Our check sends a live request as Bingbot alongside a normal browser and a Googlebot control, so a bot-verification rule isn't mistaken for a block.

Can Bingbot reach your site?

Free, no sign-up. We request your homepage as 13 different clients and show what each one gets.
